The Houston Astros formally announced an expansion for manager AJ Hinch on Thursday night, putting him under commitment through the 2022 season.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but gm Jeff Luhnow said Hinch is “rewarded commensurately with managers who have had success.” Hinch, 44, was in the final guaranteed year of his deal, but his deal experienced a team option for 2019.
“We’re excited to have AJ in the fold intended for multiple years,” Luhnow said from a statement. “AJ has played an important role in our team being successful and is one of the most effective operators in baseball. He is aligned corectly with the vision of our entry office, has made a great relationship with our players, and has acquired the respect of everyone during the clubhouse. Looking ahead, the goal is to win many championships. AJ is unquestionably the best administrator to help us achieve this goal.”
Hinch helped the Astros claim the main World Series title throughout franchise history last year within his third season leading the group.
